3 Easter Etiquette Mistakes to Avoid This Season 🐣

3 Easter Etiquette Mistakes to Avoid This Season 🐣

Dear Readers,

Easter is just around the corner, and for many, it represents joy, reflection, and a time to remember the deeper meaning behind its traditions.

The array of chocolate bunnies and yellow Easter chicks that have filled shop shelves since February (right after Valentine’s Day), can easily distract us from the true significance of the holiday. Despite its increasingly commercialised nature, Easter still holds deep importance in many people’s lives, especially for those of faith.

To help you navigate this season with grace, here are 3 Easter Etiquette Mistakes that can unintentionally dampen the mood:

1. SERVING MEAT ON GOOD FRIDAY
Many Christians around the world, especially Roman Catholics, abstain from eating meat on Good Friday as a form of penance and remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The tradition symbolises sacrifice and spiritual discipline.

If you're hosting a meal on Good Friday, offering a menu full of meat - like roast chicken, beef, or pork - could come across as inconsiderate or even offensive to observant guests.

Instead, opt for traditional alternatives such as: grilled or baked fish, dishes based on vegetables, legumes, or eggs, or even tasty mushroom risotto.

2. TREATING EASTER JUST AS A CELEBRATION OF SPRING
It’s important to remember that for many cultures, Easter is about more than chocolate bunnies and spring florals. Easter is the most important holiday in the Christian calendar - it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolising hope, renewal, and eternal life. For many, this time is deeply sacred.

In countries like Italy, Spain, and the Philippines, Holy Week is observed with solemn processions, fasting, and days of quiet reflection.
It is up to everyone how they wish to celebrate Easter, but even if you're not religious, it’s important to respect the traditions of others. This could mean dressing modestly for church, remaining silent during moments of prayer, or avoiding joking about the holiday.

3. TURNING THE EGG HUNT INTO A DIE-HARD COMPETITION
An Easter egg hunt should feel joyful, lighthearted, and inclusive. But nothing kills the vibe faster than overly competitive behaviour - whether it’s older kids hoarding all the eggs or adults getting too involved. It’s meant to be magical, not stressful.
Encourage children to share, take turns, and let the younger ones have their fun. A gentle reminder before the hunt begins can go a long way in keeping the mood warm and cheerful for everyone.

Easter traditions might look different in every country, but in all the holiday is about community, kindness, and togetherness.
